Two points of entry shall be provided The front gate which is commonly used shall be provided with an SOS (Siren Operated Sensor). The gate shall be set back from the approach a minimum of 30' so that crews may pull off of the street while initiating gate opening. A code number is required so that the police department may make a silent entry. The second point of entry, if gated, shall either be unlocked or when a locking mechanism is used it shall either be an SOS gate as above or have an approved emergency access sign When the second access point is the end of a dead end street over 150' in length the street shall end in a culdesac with a minimum radius of 50'. NOTE: Applicants for gated access roads must be willing to change to another approved type of gating system if such system is required at a future date. All maintenance and revisions shall be at the expense of the applicant, business owner or homowners' association. ANOTHER SPECIFICATION OR CODE MIGHT READ: SECURITY GATES: Access roadway shall be all-weather driving surface, not less than 20 feet of unobstructed width, capable of supporting the imposed loads of fire apparatus. Lane approach forty feet (40') from center of street to gate. EMERGENCY ACCESS: POWER ON: Uniform Emergency access must be provided for all 911 responders. This trigger device will be powered by any 12 to 24 Vdc or 16 to 24 Vac source. It must be efficient and draw less than 3.5 MA. No or NC 1.5 amp dry relay activation; momentary (or switchable to) 10 minute hold. Each gate fitted with this high-tech device must display a suitable label or decal to remind the Fire, Police, or EMS responder that his SIREN is all the "key" he or she needs to enter the gated area. POWER OFF: Gate must have a battery backup system for continuous duty OR open and hold gate open until line power is restored. In all cases, the gates must be 911 accessible.
